SUBMARINE CULTURES PERFORM LONG-TERM ROBOTIC EXPLORATION OF UNCONVENTIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL NICHES

Université Libre de Bruxelles

logoulbx

Within the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), the Unit of Social Ecology (USE) is doing research in self-organization,
emergent behaviour and collective intelligence in biological systems and in artificial systems.
Both experimental
and theoretical studies are mainly conducted on social and presocial insects (e.g. ants and cockroaches) but also on
vertebrates (fish) as well as on groups of artificial agents (robots).
In the subCULTron project, the main goal of ULB is to design and study novel collective behaviours that allow the coordination
and cooperation of the different swarms, particularly aFish and aMussels. The behaviours under focus include collective decision
making, collective energy management, and collective information management through cultural evolution in swarms.
